The trail leads in a north-easterly direction from Kleine Scheidegg (2061 m), crossing trim Alpine pastures and passing gnarled mountain stone pines down to Bustiglen and along the lower slopes of the Eiger to Alpiglen (1615 m). It then leads to the right over the open pastures of Rindertalg and though mountain forest to Bonera (1508 m), with impressive views of the Lower Grindelwald Glacier. From here the path descends very steeply into the glacier gorge (1014 m), crossing partly over secured catwalks
